Monte Alegre is a long-established estate in Sul de Minas (Southern Minas Gerais). The Viera family took ownership in 1917, and the farm’s focus shifted over time from sugarcane to an exclusive focus on coffee quality.
They also place a big emphasis on environmental management (energy, waste and water systems, reduced fertiliser use, and emissions testing), with 20%+ of the estate set aside for permanent preservation areas to support biodiversity. The farm is UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, and BSCA certified.
